Education
BS University of Utah (1978)
Ph.D. University of Wisconsin (1984)
NIH Postdoctoral Fellow, Colorado State University (1984-86)
Visiting Professor, Florida State University (1993)
Research Interests
Synthesis of anticancer drugs and photoaffinity labeling for enzyme-substrate binding site determination. Research ranges from enzyme interactions to targeted drug delivery, with a focus on mechanistic details of organic photochemistry.
Student Involvement/Requirements
I will train 10 undergraduates in research positions. Students in the research group learn tools that enhance their understanding of all areas of chemistry, including chemical principles related to cancer. I begin taking undergraduates after they have completed Organic Chemistry or a Chemistry lab. The work is publication oriented and undergraduates do appear on publications. The source of funding is BYU. A commitment to more than 3 semesters in the lab is preferred.
