BYU to host first annual Cancer Symposium in conjunction with American Association of Cancer Research

The symposium will educate young students on career possibilities in cancer research and inform community members of recent breakthroughs in cancer research

PROVO, Utah — The BYU Simmons Center for Cancer Research is partnering with the American Association of Cancer Research to host a Cancer Symposium on March 8. Held at the BYU Conference Center, the symposium is the first of its kind and seeks to inform the community on cancer research careers and breakthroughs.

Session 1 (5-6 pm) will inform high school students and college freshman about possible careers in cancer research. Students will be able to explore research opportunities available to them, and learn the how and why behind cancer research and practice.

Session 2 (7-9 pm) will feature distinguished cancer researchers who will present new breakthroughs in their respective fields of research. Community members will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the best methods of cancer prevention and treatment.

Attendees will have access to cancer research involvement opportunities, including signing up for lab tours, joining volunteer opportunities, and registering for sponsor events.

The event is free, but attendees are encouraged to register and guarantee a seat.
