Volunteer with the Simmons Center for Cancer Research by getting involved with Cougars vs Cancer. The Brigham Young University Cougars vs Cancer Group (CVC) is the BYU SCCR’s student affiliate, and the student-run organization has a three-fold mission:
1) Educate BYU and community members about cancer risk reduction and early detection
2) Serve individuals and families affected by cancer
3) Raise funds to further cancer research
The club’s largest annual project is the Cougs vs Cancer Rex Lee Run, a race that honors those who have fought or are fighting cancer, and raises funds that go directly to cancer research at Brigham Young University. Other projects include sponsoring and organizing seminars on cancer prevention, participating in “Pink Outs” at athletic games in honor of breast cancer victims, educating the campus community on diet and sun exposure, creating gifts for cancer patients in various centers throughout the community, serving families affected by cancer, and a host of other projects.
